The Choice Not Given
We have come a long way.
Girls who were forced to stay at home, are now being sent to schools to learn and earn. Colleges, Universities and trade schools are now full of energetic and capable women. Nationwide the girl child has been raised up from an unwanted gender to a valuable part of society.
But there are still hurdles. Places where girls are still unwanted. Still forced to stay at home. To make a sacrifice of their potential to fulfill household duties. Being forced to drop out of studies to get married and have children.
They are not even given a choice. Because deeply embedded in our culture is the gender-role stigma, of traditional housewives, of little girls being deprived of the choice to do what they want with their lives.
We are working towards a future where that choice becomes reality.
The Resource Barrier
Even if a family wanted to educate their daughter, there are significant obstacles in the form of high education costs, low admittance for women in vocational schools, and overall a gender inequality gap that seems to never get smaller no matter what we try.
The problem is then a systemic one, which means that it cannot be solved purely at the familial source. It has to be addressed on all levels, from educational institutions, to public and private job sectors.
This is the problem we are tackling. We are creating not only educational channels for girls, but also the fruition of this education into a meaningful and dignified livelihood for themselves and/or their family.
A Place for Her in the World
We are creating programs, with the help of our partners, that consist of a lifetime channel for a girl to get educated and get a guaranteed job placement. We also take her aspirations and career choice into account, hence there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every girl is supported based on what career path she may prefer out of all the options available to her.
This program includes:
- Mentorship and counseling
- Financial support
- Other Resources (Books, Trainings, Specific Job Trainings etc.)
We want her to not only be educated, but to know her own worth and live life with her head held high.
